Wayne Neyens celebrated his 100th birthday Sunday July 29th, 2018. Larry and Michael represented the PPM and bestowed a tribute sculpture that was well received by Wayne.

Our big goal in 2018 is find and acquire a permanent warehouse space to house our ever growing collection, create classroom areas for STEAM programs, and open our doors for more Expos and Special Events.

In 2018, The Pacific Pinball Museum will continue to aspire for excellence in our work and to achieve our goal of acquiring a permanent space where we host public events and expand our educational programming. Our mission, as always, is to show and share our expanding collection of these amazing machines for people of all ages to experience and enjoy.

Do you believe in Extraterrestrials? The Pacific Pinball Museum had three space inspired pinball games at the California Academy of Sciences ongoing "Nightlife" series on October 19th. The Thursday evening series focuses on the search for life in and outside our solar system with special speakers and info from organizations like NASA and METI who will share insights on the latest developments and research. Now here’s a reason to "phone home!"

Museum founder and director Michael Schiess gave an entertaining and informative presentation in the Chabot Planetarium August 25th as part of the East Bay Nerd Nite series.

Using a power point produced by Schiess and PPM Staff Designer Lynn Gustafson the subject of how to play pinball better using science and a little knowledge of physics and Geometry was well received by the Nerd Nite visitors. The crowd was invited afterwards to try these newly learned tricks on the machines in the exhibition gallery on the 3rd floor. Many of the diagrams featured were from an obscure tome circa 1979 titled "Pinball Wizardry" by Robert Polin and Michael Rain. Snassle the cat was featured in the ending which exemplified the notion that anyone can play the game.

MAGFEST, the music and gaming festival, is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to promoting and preserving videogame music, art, history, and culture. MAGWEST was their first time coming out to the West Coast which took place August 25th - 27th, 2017 and will hopefully continue for years to come.

Although the focus is video games and music, the producers behind the event have expanded the event to include pinball and engaged the Pacific Pinball Museum to representthat end of amusement machines.

And represent we did; led by long time board member Jem Gruber, we brought 9 Electro-Mechanical Pinball machines for the arcade room. They were extremely popular getting solid play for most of the event. With tech help from board member David Volansky and PPM staff technician Kyle Spiteri the machines were kept running smoothly throughout the show. They were a major hit taking the event in a different direction and exposing many to a new experience in gaming. In keeping with the music theme, board member Ron Chan and PPM staff Designer Lynn Gustafson put together a seminar presentation about the earliest involvement of music in gaming. This covered '30s~ '70s pins themed from popular scores of the day and the introduction of music and sounds into early electronic pinball games of the late '70s to present.

The second half of the presentation was an excellent video about music production and composition by veteran sound designer David Thiel. Thiel covered his current project, Alien providing details on audio tracking and composition in the digital world. Truly fascinating on many levels!

Pam Moore from KRON 4 paid a visit to the PPM today along with 60 kids from the East Oakland Youth Development Center. The kids had a great time, and Pam is even lovelier in person than she is on TV. Thanks for coming to see us!

Join us for our four week Challenge through Macy's and Crowdrise/GoFundMe. This is a friendly competition with national non-profits as we seek funds for a permanent facility to house, restore and view our magnificent collection of rare, exiting pinball machines.

The Pacific Pinball Museum has now become the steward of over 1500 rare and vintage games, many saved from private collections and landfills. We are now willingly saddled with this great responsibility; a responsibility to show, house and restore these marvels of innovation and history. Theses are not just games…these are part of our American heritage, and we don’t want that to be lost.

Here is a partial breakdown of costs:

• $25 - Buys cleaning supplies for one month in the museum

• $50 - Buys 100 fuses for pinball machine repair

• $75 - Buys one month stock for our vending machines

• $100 - Buys one tank of gas for our delivery truck

• $150 - 100 square feet of storage space

• $250 - Buys meals for volunteers

• $500 - Buys museum supplies such as, electric cords, light bulbs, foot pedals, printing costs, etc.

• $1000 - Electricity for one month at the museum

• $1200 - Repairs and maintenance for two pinball machines for one year

Art Stenholm Retrospective and “That Conceptual Life”

Multi-media artists Pons Maar (Hollywood irritant and performance artist) and Ilene Segalove (Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Getty, MOMA, MOCA, LACMA etc…) present photographic collage narratives that question the daily residue of melancholic and sentimental reflection in “That Conceptual Life”

Art Stenholm Retrospective: This unique and under appreciated artists work will be showcased with a sampling of games, history and a large-scale mural depicting his 1964 game “North Star”. Curated by Michael Schiess and Chris Rummell.

Shows run through Sept 3rd.

PPM was very excited to be part of PAGG #21! We had lots of NEW merchandise for sale, Vintage games to play and entries for the Kids Tournament (the proceeds of which will to help expand PPM programming!)

Should I invest in an EFT or index fund?

Each type of investment has its merits. Index funds aren't actively managed and thus can be cheaper to operate. However, that is not always the case and ETF's offer liquidity that index funds do not. You should also consider how frequently you intend to rebalance your investments. Remember, it's not about working for your money but making your money work for you.

When was multi-ball introduced?

Bally's 1956 BALLS-A-POPPIN is credited as the first pinball game with a multi-ball feature. However, given the manual ball loaders on early games, it was not impossible to have multiple balls on the playfield at once prior to this. This practice is generally frowned upon and is prohibited at venues like Pacific Pinball Museum.

Pacific Pinball was at the annual Macy’s Flower Show!

This years “Carnival” theme featured our clownish “Bobo” from 1961, with 60’s style anodized aluminum trim, tapered tubular legs and a shelf with cigarette holder and a place for drinks. Also in the show was our larger than life “Zip” mural, hand painted by Bay Area Muralist Dan Fontes, depicting a carnival scene and roller coaster from the 1939 game of the same name. PPM Executive Director Mike Schiess’ spoke to a crowd on Pinball History.

Our very own graphic designer and marketing agent Lynn Gustafson made all of the arrangements with Macy’s staff and organized the deal, while working double time on getting our new PPM brochures ready for distribution at this popular annual event. Another great opportunity to help us get the word out about our cause!
