Skateball
Stretching back to the 1960’s, California was often typecast in popular culture as an endless stretch of beaches and palm trees. While not entirely unfounded, the familiar elements of skate, surf, and beach culture came to represent life on the west coast. Skateball captures a distinct moment in time and reflects not only the mythology, but how widely it was employed in media and mass marketing.
With warm golden tones, Greg Freres evokes the warmth of sunny California. Bally started using the 4-color printing process in 1976, which efficiently offered a much broader range of colors and blends than was practical in years prior.
