Swinger

Swinger is a scene from the sexual revolution which took place in 1960’s America. A swinger sometimes refers to a lively and fashionable person who attends lots of social events. In the 1970’s, it could also mean couples who engaged in partner swapping or had a non-monogamous open relationship. The sexual revolution and Free Love movement of the 1960’s challenged many conventional norms around relationships and sexuality, arguing that people should be free from interference in any form of relationship they choose for themselves.

It’s not entirely clear which connotation of the word Marche’s Swinger artwork is meant to portray. What we do see are uninhibited party gals and dancing guys, all dressed in colorful hippy clothes. The joke in the cartoon is that a grandpa wearing carpet slippers is outdancing the younger sweating businessman (with psychedelic tie). The Swing Reel in the center gives the player points each time they “score”.
